“Sik Sik” is the Inuit word for the arctic ground squirrel. In the soft Alaskan tundra, the squirrel’s burrow often has many funnel-like entrances. While the bear is furiously digging in one entrance, the prey may escape out the back door. If the bear sees or hears the squirrel leave, he pursues it to another entrance and begins digging all over again. Like a shell game, it becomes a game of chance for both predator and prey.
