    Melvin Warren was the favorite Western artist of President Lyndon Johnson and the two fellow Texans became close friends. In a show of friendship, the President gave the artist a longhorn steer Warren named Commander. Warren later sculpted Commander, cast it in bronze in 1974, titled it Texas Longhorn and presented casting number 2 to the President. This bronze is casting number 21 in the edition.
