Melvin Warren (American, 1920 - 1995 deceased)

    Melvin Warren was the favorite Western artist of President Lyndon Johnson and the two fellow Texans became close friends. In a show of friendship, the President gave the artist a longhorn steer Warren named Commander. Warren later sculpted Commander, cast it in bronze in 1974 (in an edition of 60) titled it Texas Longhorn and presented one to the President. This bronze is number 21 in the edition.
