G. Harvey - NEW (American, 1933 - 2017)
One of the most recognized names in all of Western Art, Gerald
Harvey Jones or G. Harvey developed a passion for painting as a
child while growing up in the rugged Texas hill country north of
San Antonio. G. Harvey's grandfather was a trail boss at the
tender age of 18 and regaled him with stories of the old
west. Harvey went on to attend North Texas State University
and graduated cum laude with a Bachelors Degree in art.
Harvey began his career by painting landscapes of the Texas Hill
Country but has become famously known for street scenes of Texas
cities and iconic scenes of other American and International cities
such as New York, Boston, and Paris. His paintings are
executed in a romantic manner reminiscent of Edouard Cortes, a
famous French painter from the late 19th and early 20th centuries known for his
arresting scenes of Paris. G. Harvey's use of light whether
it is from a street light or a ranch house interior has become one
of his hallmarks as a painter. His ability to use light
combined with a variety of atmospheric conditions have given his
works a nostalgic quality that have made them highly sought after
by collectors from all over the world. His works can be
found in numerous corporate collections, former U.S. presidents,
state governors, and the Smithsonian Institution. G. Harvey
passed away in 2017 at the age of 84.
